Call for Bids for 2018 and 2019 IWRF Championships

The International Wheelchair Rugby Federation is seeking bids to host the following IWRF Championship tournaments to be held in 2018 and 2019:

 

  • 2018 IWRF Asia Regional Championship
  • 2018 IWRF European Championship Division B
  • 2019 IWRF European Championship Division A
  • 2019 IWRF Asia-Oceania Championship

(Note: The 2019 IWRF Americas Championship will take place as part of the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.)

 

With the recent growth of participation in the Asia-Oceania Zone, IWRF will be running two events as part of that zone's Championship for 2019.

 

  • 2018 Asia Regional Championship
    • For countries which did not attend the 2017 Asia-Oceania Championship
    • Four to eight teams may participate
    • Up to four teams will qualify for the 2019 Zone Championship
    • Bid deadline February 1, 2018
    • Site selection complete April 1, 2018
    • Event dates September – October 2018
  • 2019 IWRF Asia-Oceania Championship
    • Countries which attended the 2017 Asia-Oceania Championship qualify directly
    • Up to four teams from the 2018 Asia Regional will be invited to attend
    • Qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
    • Bid deadline May 1, 2018
    • Site selection complete August 1, 2018
    • Event dates August – September 2019

Because of the size of the European Zone, three Divisional Championships (A, B, C) have been established to allow as many country's as possible to compete at a fully sanctioned IWRF tournament. Each championship is held every two-years, with the next European Championship Division C to take place in 2019.

 

  • 2018 IWRF European Championship Division B:
    • Eight teams will participate: 
      • Third to sixth place teams from the 2016 European Championship Division B
      • Seventh and eighth place teams from the 2017 European Championship Division A
      • First and second place teams from the 2017 European Championship Division C
    • Two teams will qualify for the 2019 European Championship Division A
    • Bid deadline February 1, 2018
    • Site selection complete March 15, 2018
    • Event dates October - November 2018
  • 2018 IWRF European Championship Division A:
    • Top 6 countries which attended the 2017 European Championship qualify directly
    • Up to two teams from the 2018 European Championship Division B will be invited to attend
    • Qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games
    • Bid deadline May 1, 2018
    • Site selection complete September 1, 2018
    • Event dates July - August 2019
