In an effort to ensure athlete representation at all levels of the sport, the IWRF formally established its Athletes Council in 2014. The attached Terms of Reference layout the goals and responsibilities of this important group.

Doubling as a qualifier for the 2018 IWRF World Championships in Sydney, the Steelers don’t need to worry after earning automatic passage thanks to their gold medal winning performance at last year’s Paralympic Games in Rio. They would also have qualified as the host nation.
IWRF Sub Zone Vice President Rodney Holt explained “our strategy is to develop wheelchair rugby in the Southeast Asian region step by step. Starting with the pioneers Malaysia and Thailand in 2013, followed by Indonesia in 2014, Singapore in 2016, and Timor-Leste in 2017, we are planning for the Philippines in 2018.
