“Maximus is a gladiator. Maximus competes and wins in his wheelchair. Maximus is
extreme sport.”

This was the motto of the first edition of the tournament. From June 15th till 19th, 2009 ABRC - Brazilian Wheelchair Rugby Association is going to hold the second edition of Maximus in the marvelous city of Rio de Janeiro. The teams from Argentina, Colombia, United States, Great Britain and Brazil have confirmed their participation.

The first edition of Maximus Quad Rugby took place in Bogotá, Colombia in 2008, uniting the teams of Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the United States alongside with hospitable Colombians who participated with two teams. The experience gained was so rich that
it was a unanimous decision of all the delegations present to proclaim the Colombian competition the first edition of the annual tournament with the objective of Wheelchair Rugby development in Americas Zone.

Maximus is a developmental tournament that is supported by the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation – IWRF. The IWRF is the governing body that oversees the sport of wheelchair rugby throughout the world.

For the Brazilian National Team Maximus MMIX is going to serve as preparation for Pan-American Competition to be held in October later this year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Argentinean Competition qualifies for the World Championships of 2010 in Canada where a slot for the London 2012 Paralympics will be on stake. Come to participate, support and cheer for our National Team!
